Institutional, made to last
The look of a national institution that has existed for a century. Generous single column, wide margins, a series spine down the left edge of every work.
The risk it takes: A live sortition draw as the index hero — the mechanism the canon is about, running rather than described.

Journal of record
A serious scholarly periodical. Near-monochrome, dense, typographically severe. One editorial red, used only for canon numbers and review states.
The risk it takes: The register typeset as a contents page — flush-left titles, leader dots, right-aligned numbers.

A working laboratory
A research group that publishes fast and shows its instruments. Asymmetric grid, enormous canon numbers, metadata in a persistent left rail.
The risk it takes: The canon as a horizontal timeline strip, each work a block scaled by length and coloured by kind.
